Yummy!

Our creative staff twists the classics just enough to assure that a visit to the café at Slettnes gives you the feeling of being back in the eternal peace of grandma's kitchen, while at the same time your nostrils and eyes are tempted by combinations yet untasted. This one was an immediate hit: Nettlewaffel with smoked salmon, sour cream and Siberian chives. Marketed as this weeks special, today's respone indicates that this little delicacy will reappear time and time again. Mmm... 

Opening of the summer season June 9th.

Not only will the waffles and other renowned Slettnes delights be available from June 9th noon.
On Saturday, we celebrate the opening of the summer season by serving a 3-course meal from 20:00. Please note: The number of tables is limited indeed. Pre-booking only: (+47) 78497602. Welcome!

Main course:
Wild salmon from Skjånes served with a number of tasty accompaniments

Panna Cotta

Summer at Slettnes

Sleep in historical surroundings, eat in the cozy café, and join a guided tour in the tower, where incomparable views of sea, moor and mountain reward the effort of ascending the 139 steps. A hike through Slettnes Nature Reserve is an experience to remember, whether one's main interest is birding, ancient remains or simply scenery.

900 and counting!

Nicolas Selosse is part of a group of Belgian birders currently spending their days by the machine house. Very little that passes within range of their powerful telescopes escape their keen attention, especially if it looks anything like a Pomarine Skua! Nicolas has been to Slettnes several times, and when we spoke to him in the afternoon of May 15th, the happy Belgians were two hours into a Skua rush they believed would break their earlier record. We quickly understood that this was not the time for a longer chat, and left the guys in the sun. As for the Pomarine, this is what it looks like:

Slettnes lighthouse field station - for students and researchers

For groups of students and researchers who are interested in arctic nature or the history of the coast of Finnmark, Slettnes lighthouse may serve as an ideal base.

Loon Galore!

The second group of bidwatchers seem to have good connections with the weather gods. Basking in the sun by the machine house, they report high numbers of both Red-billed and Red-throated loons passing Slettnes the last two days. Yesterday, the lucky fellows also spotted a Snowy Owl, resting just behind the lighthouse buildings.

First birdwatchers to arrive

Winterly conditions still reign up here, but nights are getting lighter, and the first birds have arrived - some to nest, others for a break before they continue north and east. The mass migration of seabirds is expected to reach Slettnes in the coming weeks, and the first group of birdwatchers will arrive on April 28th.  

Great numbers of Snow Buntings hang around the lighthouse these days.
